“Babies over three months old, who used to eat well, recently suddenly refused to breast-feed. They did not eat in their arms and lay down to feed. What could they do?”

The baby’s sweet and attentive breast-feeding, the sound of gurgling, such a scene will make the mother feel particularly happy and satisfied. Sometimes, however, the baby suddenly becomes unwilling to breast-feed, which can destroy the mother. What is the reason?

Don’t worry, baby is tired of milk, maybe because of these:

1. Physiological Dairy-weariness Period

Most babies will go through this stage, commonly known as “milk-weary period”, usually occurs in the baby 4-6 months, as the baby is no longer so fond of breast-feeding, always stop eating.

Response methods:

If the baby is well developed and vigorous, but the milk volume is temporarily reduced, parents need not worry, generally this “milk-weary period” will last for several days to about a month, after which the baby will naturally restore appetite.

When the baby refuses to breast-feed, the mother should not force her to take the baby out more to play and exercise, so that the baby can have a good mood, but also consume physical energy, so that he has a sense of hunger. Hunger is very important, why do not hungry babies eat, hungry will take the initiative to eat!

2. “I have teeth.”

After the baby begins to grow teeth, it will cause itching and pain in the gums, and may bite the nipple while breast-feeding and ignore breast-feeding.

Response methods:

You can chew gum to relieve discomfort for your baby. Older babies who have added supplementary food can eat some molar biscuits and carrots.

3. “I like the taste of juice.”

When the baby is three or four months old, some parents add fruit juice, sweet water or other acidic and salty food to the baby prematurely, which may cause the baby’s taste to develop prematurely and lose interest in mild milk.

Response methods:

Babies under 1 year old do not need to add any condiments and salt. In addition, it is recommended that babies under the age of 1 should not drink fruit juice. After adding supplementary food, they can start with puree.

4. “I’m not used to the taste of bottle feeding/formula milk.”

When breast-fed babies switch to formula feeding, they may be reluctant to breast-feed because they are not used to bottle feeding or the taste of formula milk.

Response methods:

Babies don’t eat bottles. They can be fed with spoons or small cups. In addition, when feeding with bottles, it is recommended not to be fed by the mother, because usually the mother is holding the baby breast-feeding, now suddenly feeding bottles, the baby will not accept, can be fed by the father or other family.

If the baby does not like formula milk, it can be fed a little formula milk when the baby is hungry, and then breast-feeding. Be careful not to dilute the milk powder, but to adjust the proportion according to the instructions, otherwise the calories are not enough.

5. “I have fresh things to do”

The baby’s ability to move has been greatly enhanced, and he feels strange about the things around him. Some of the little guys are reluctant to be honest with their milk.

Response methods:

Create a quiet and comfortable eating environment for your baby. When breastfeeding, it’s better to have only mother and baby in the room. Don’t turn on TV or music to avoid outside noise and telephone interference.

6. “Physical discomfort”

Babies can also suffer from milk weariness when they are sick, such as thrush and sore throat, which can cause oral pain; cold and stuffy nose, which can make the baby unable to breathe while breast feeding; and stomach pain, fever and so on, which can make the baby become disliked to eat milk.

Response methods:

If the baby is tired of milk, there are mental retardation, restless sleep, easy to cry and other performance, or there is weight loss, it may be “pathological milk weariness”, to take the baby to see a doctor.

Fan Mu said: When the baby is tired of milk, the mother should not be anxious, but keep a relaxed and happy mood, because the mother’s own emotions will also be transmitted to the baby, you can carefully observe the performance of the baby, find out the real reason for the baby’s weariness, so as to cope with it, so that the baby can resume normal appetite.
