Natural childbirth is an instinctive behavior of human beings. It is a normal physiological process in the process of human reproduction and a natural result of maturity. Although caesarean section is very popular nowadays, many mothers who are waiting for delivery still choose to give birth naturally, because it has more benefits for both mothers and babies.

The success of natural childbirth depends on four main points. Abortion is related to four factors: uterine contraction power, fetal size, passage and maternal emotion.

When the uterus contractes properly and the birth canal is large enough for the fetus to pass through, that is, the pelvic cavity and the size of the fetus can be symmetrical, then when the uterus contractes, the baby can be smoothly pushed into the mother’s birth canal. If these three factors can not be properly coordinated, such as fetal enlargement, pelvic stenosis and so on, it is easy to cause dystocia or birth canal laceration.

Power: uterine contractile force

An important factor in the successful delivery of babies is that the contraction of the uterus of the mother must be full of strength, that is, to achieve “labor pain”. Because uterine contractility is the main source of force after parturition, which runs through the whole process of childbirth.

However, the onset of uterine contraction does not necessarily mean a smooth delivery. Uterine contractility should be normal and effective in order to deliver smoothly. What kind of shrinkage is effective? This should be analyzed from the rhythm, duration and interval of uterine contraction, the intensity of uterine contraction and other aspects.

Rhythm of contraction: This is an important sign of labor, that is, uterine contraction should be regular and uncontrolled, lower abdominal pain is often referred to as “pain”.

Every contraction lasts for a certain period of time from weak to strong, then from strong to weak until it disappears, which is called “intermittence”, i.e. the interval time of contraction. Intermittent uterine muscle relaxation, no pain, movement back to normal. “Pain” so repeated until the end of the whole process of childbirth.

Duration and interval time: Regular contraction should be 4-5 minutes apart, duration of contraction is 30 seconds, with the progress of labor, the interval time is shorter and longer, until the opening of the mouth, the duration of pain is up to 60 seconds, the interval time is 1-2 minutes.

The intensity of uterine contraction increases gradually with the progress of labor, and the intermittence of uterine contraction is more important, so that the rhythmic, intermittence and intensity of uterine contraction can ensure smooth delivery and fetal safety.

Anything that causes the abnormal contraction of the uterus mentioned above is likely to cause dystocia.
